“Brussels sprout fritters” is a delicious and inventive way to enjoy Brussels sprouts, a type of cruciferous vegetable known for their nutritional benefits. These fritters transform the earthy, slightly bitter taste of Brussels sprouts into a crispy treat that can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or side dish.
To make fritters, the vegetables are typically shredded or finely chopped, but Brussels sprouts I sliced longitudinally into two- three parts depending on the size of Brussels Sprouts, these slices are dipped into prepared batter, which is made from chickpeas flour, some spices, sesame seed and lemon juice, enhances the flavour.
These dipped slices fried until golden and crispy. They can be served hot and often accompanied by dipping sauces such as yogurt-based dip or green chutney making it a versatile and appealing dish.
Ingredients:
- Brussels Sprouts: 8-10 no.
- Mustard oil /cooking oil: for frying
- Salt: one teaspoon
- Turmeric Powder: 1/4 teaspoon
- Chilli powder: 1 teaspoon(as per taste)
- Garam Masala Powder: 1/4 teaspoon
- Ajwain (carom seeds): half teaspoon
- Besan (gram flour): one cup
- Water: one cup
- Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
- Sesame seed: 1 tablespoon
Preparation:
- Trim the stalk of Brussels Sprouts, slice them longitudinally into two-three slices.
- Take a bowl; Put besan, salt, ajwain, chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder, add water to make a smooth batter. Add sesame seed and lemon juice, mix it, Keep aside.
Method:
- Heat oil in a fry-pan; let oil to smoke. Pour a drop of batter into the oil.
- If batter comes up, it means right temperature of oil otherwise wait for a while and test again.
- After getting right temperature of oil, dip Brussels sprouts slice into the batter. (either helps of your hand or spoon)
- Deep fry all slices on medium flame, slowly they start to come up then only turn over the pakoda(Fritters).
- Deep fry till it becomes golden brown in colour(about 6-7 minutes each batch).
- Now, mouth watering “Brussels Sprouts Fritters(Brussels Sprouts Pakoda)” is ready to be served.
