I’ve experimented with so many recipes using spring onion, exploring its versatility in different dishes as Spring Onion Aaloo Sabji, Spring Onion Thepla, Stuffed Spring Onion Paratha, Spring Onion Paratha etc. Today, I decided to make something crispy and indulgent—spring onion fritters.
Spring Onion Pakoda is a delightful and crispy snack that’s perfect for any time of the day. Made with finely chopped spring onions mixed in a spiced gram flour batter, the pakoras are deep-fried to golden perfection. The unique flavour of spring onions adds a fresh and slightly pungent taste, making the fritters a popular choice during rainy days or as an accompaniment to evening tea. Simple yet satisfying dish that adds a delicious crunch to any meal or makes for a perfect snack on its own, Spring Onion Pakoda is a must-try recipe who loves traditional Indian snacks with a twist.
Ingredients:
- Spring onion: 200gm
- Green chilli: 4-5 no.
- Ajwain (carom seeds): half teaspoon
- Kalonji (onion seed): ¼ tea spoons
- Black pepper: 15-20 grains
- Besan (gram flour): one cup
- Baking soda: 1 pinch
- Salt: half teaspoon
- Oil: for deep frying
Preparation:
- Chop spring onion into small pieces. Keep aside.
- Take a bowl. Put Besan, spring onion, salt, green chilli and all other ingredients except baking soda and oil.
- Mix it well; keep aside for couple of minutes.
- Now add baking soda. Mix it well again. (Add few drops of water if required.)
- Now, pakoda batter is ready.
Method:
- Heat oil in a frypan; when it starts to smoke, drop small size batter in it. (Either helps of your hand or spoon)
- If batter comes up, it means right temperature of oil otherwise wait for a while and test again.
- After getting right temperature of oil; deep fry all pakoda (on medium flame size of your choice), till golden brown from all sides( it will take 4-5 minutes per batch). Keep aside.
- Repeat this until all batter is finished.
- “Spring onion pakoda” is ready to serve with Raw Mango Chutney.
Spring onion pakoda is good for evening snacks, otherwise as you wish.
