Japanese green tea culture

Today, while I was preparing tea, I thought of writing about this green tea: has a typical flavor and it is best on its own without sugar, milk and any other natural flavor. And the monsoon climate of Japan is truly magical for me. The sky may be dull and gloomy, but mood become cheerful.

The love of tea takes special place in my heart…drinking tea is not only pleasurable rather it gives refreshment and its benefits go far beyond…

There are thousands types of tea in the world, they traditionally classified as Green tea, Black tea, Yellow tea, Herbal tea, Flavored tea, Blended tea, White tea & Oolong tea.

All non herbal teas are made from camellia sinensis (botanical name) plant. The Japanese green tea is immensely popular across the world and also made their way in India too.

The powder green tea is used in religious rituals called “Tea ceremony“is the part of Japanese culture.

In the traditional cuisine with all most every meal in the Japan accomplices by fresh brewed pot of green tea.

Actually the green tea is elixir of Japanese and they think it has innumerable health benefits (about life span).

Plenty of researches in Japan showing that drinking green tea is not only improve your health, it can be protect your teeth, improve your brain healthcare for your heart, lower the risk of diabetes and good for those who wants to reduce their weight.

Above all green tea is very effective in keeping skin and hair beautiful.

This is why green tea is staple drink of Japanese cuisine.

Herbal tea (yoga tea)

Sharadiy Navratri will be held from 29th Sept -8th Sept and the first form of Nav Durga is called “shailputri”

I am going to upload special phalahari recipe on this occasion, rather it is ‘phalahari Thali  day 1‘ recipe.

Here  is Herbal tea (Yoga tea) recipe…

Ingredients:

  • Honey: 2 tablespoon
  • Water: 2 cups
  • Ginger: 1”piece
  • Fennel seed: 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin: 1 tablespoon
  • Coriander seeds: 2 tablespoon
  • Milk: 2 tablespoon (as per taste)

Preparation:

  1. Dry roast coriander, cumin and fennel seed, make powder in a grinder, store in air tight container.
  2. Crush the ginger into motor and pestle, keep aside.

Method:

  1. For making tea, boil the water, add full spoon of the roasted and ground powder and crushed ginger, boil again for couple of minutes, put off the flame and cover for a while. Strain the tea add honey and milk, serve immediately.
  2. Note: you  may serve with lemon juice.

Watermelon iced green tea

Tamil Nadu is known for its hot, humid and rowdy summers, so here is a cup of Watermelon iced green tea, which is able to beat the heat of summer. This is the best summer refreshing tea recipe.

The benefits of this tea are simply amazing; it is Easy to prepare and extremely healthy and gives cooling effect to the body. This tea is packed with the antioxidant benefit of green tea.

The lycopene in watermelon and catechin in green tea are potent antioxidants with proven anti aging benefits. Watermelon provides good quantity of vitamin C and A

Ingredients:

  • Water melon: 1 cup (heaped)
  • Green tea bag: 2no.
  • Honey/sugar: 1 tablespoon
  • Water: 1 cup

Preparation:

  1. Discard the upper white layer of watermelon and cut into pieces, put the watermelon into juicer and blend well, strain the juice. Keep into refrigerator.

Method:

  1. Boil 1cup of water. Lower the flames, allow it to boil for couple of minutes.
  2. Take a teapot, put teabags into it. Decant the boiled water into the tea pot.
  3. Let the teabag immersed into the water for about 10 minutes, strain and chill in the refrigerator for about 2 hours.
  4. Add watermelon juice and honey into the tea, refrigerate for another one hour. Serve chilled.

Cold/iced coffee (coffee milk shake)

I have sweet memory related to cold coffee. This is the memory of my son’s childhood and their friends.

Whenever my son`s friends visited my place they asked for this yummy coffee.

Coffee keeps you alert and therefore you perform better, it reduces the stress.

Ingredients:

  • Instant coffee: 1 tablespoon (per glass)
  • Sugar: 1 teaspoon (as per your taste)
  • Chilled milk: 150 ml
  • Ice cubes: 4-5 no.
  • Fresh cream/malai: 1 tablespoon (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Crush the ice cubes, keep aside.

Method:

  1. Put the milk, coffee, sugar and malai all together in blender.
  2. Whisk for a minute, till everything get mixed well, coffee becomes frothy.
  3. Add crushed ice into it, and whisk until it become thick, smooth and frothier.
  4. Now the cold coffee is ready to serve, pour coffee into long glasses.
  5. On the top, Sprinkle some amount of coffee powder. It gives excellent aroma…
  6. Froth comes on the top of the blander slowly, so take care and serve froth to all glasses.
  7. Immediately serve the coffee because the froth on the top settles down fast and reduces with time.

Golden green tea

Ingredients:

  • Fresh mint leaf/dry mint leaf: 10-15no.
  • Fresh lemon grass: 8-10 leaf
  • Ginger: 1” piece
  • Cardamom: 1no.
  • Clove: 1 no.
  • Green tea bag: 2no.
  • Honey: 1 tablespoon (optional)
  • Water: 3 cups

Preparation:

  1. Peel off ginger and ground roughly.
  2. Discard the skin of cardamom and crush the seed.

Method:

  1. Boil 3 cups of water.
  2. Add all ingredients except the tea bags.
  3. Lower the flames, when the liquid begin to boil allow it to boil for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Take a teapot, put teabags into it.
  5. Decant the liquid into the tea pot.
  6. Let the teabag immerse into the liquid for two minutes and serve hot.
  7. You can add honey if you like.
